This thermos keeps my drinks hot for over 6 hours. The lid consists of 7 parts which are quite easy to disassemble/reassemble. I enjoy the fact that I know all parts of the lid are clean and not harboring old residue or smells.

The only set back with this mug is that it’s inconvenient to drink from. When you open the lid, several drops of your drink will drip out of the lid. Unfortunately, I was wearing white the day I first to decided to drink hot chocolate from this mug.

Overall, great mug. Just be careful when you drink.

*****Update 1 month later. I take back my paragraph about smells. The top DOES smell even after you disassemble all of the pieces. The metallic ring traps some liquid underneath and there is no way take it apart. I’ve found if I take all the pieces apart and SOAK them in hot water, the smells go away for the day. After the next use, you have to do it again, or it will start smelling. ** Be careful with using dish soap while soaking!** I tried that the first time, rinsed with water, and my beverage tasted like soap all day.

Very sleek container – holds about 500ml (think Poland Springs bottle of water 0.5L). I bought this May 2013 – so I have had it over a year and am pleased with it. Read the instructions that come with the mug – the entire travel mug dismantles which makes for a thorough cleaning. The plastic ring on the bottle where you put your mouth actually lifts out and NEEDS to be cleaned – else you will be drinking mold. I have dropped it a few times – the paint has chipped right where it sits in the cup holder but other than that it has worked well. I am able to keep black coffee hot for 8 hours easy – and with the cream/sugar combo 8 hours later it is very warm (obviously the cream cools the coffee down).
This flask is made in Thailand – bought through amazon. If you happen to be in Japan you can purchase the same travel mug but made in Japan. Diameter is around 3~3.5 inches I think -makes it very sleek and fits into a satchel perfectly – even the outer pocket on a filson computer case. The lid screws in and I have never had it leak – obviously don’t try and fit a liter of coffee – it holds only 0.5L. Traditional travel mugs have a lid that you can drink from – not in this case. You have to physically remove the lid and then you can drink from the canister quite easily. It is more like a little thermos than it is a travel mug. I have NO problem with this because the cleaning of the lid is what I have hated about the traditional travel mugs and so having to remove the lid is not a big deal for me. Again, sits very snugly in a car – keep in mind if you remove the lid the stuff can slosh around. I ALWAYS hand-wash the lid and the plastic ring/gasket that your lips are on when drinking the contents of the mug. I have never put any kind of brush in the container – just run it through the dishwasher.
There have been several times where I have let the coffee sit with cream for 5 or 6 days and everything gets really gross – You have to stick the canister part in the dishwasher to get it clean – maybe even run it through a couple of times. I soak the lid (which comes apart into three pieces) and the gasket (from the canister portion) in dishwashing liquid and hot water for 30 minutes and then clean it. If I can’t wait to have it go through the dishwasher I will use paper toweling and put some soap on it and push it into the canister and swish it around. I put cream in my coffee and so it takes a bit more work to clean it than if the coffee were black – but goes really quick (despite my longwinded description) and does come clean. Lately, I have used it for smoothies and works great.
Some reviewers have commented on a smell – never noticed it but I do clean the whole contraption every time I use. I also wash with dish washing liquid (Dawn) and rinse VERY WELL to get rid of the soap.
Things I dislike -the interior of the canister is a non-stick surface. I wish it were stainless steel. If you are inclined to stick a brush in I suspect the surface would get scuffed and I am not sure I would want to be drinking from it at that point. Again, I NEVER put a bottle brush of any kind to clean the interior. I am going to be buying a Snow Peak Kanpai Bottle (18fl oz.) that is made of stainless steel (more expensive too) and will compare the two products at a later date.

By far the most impressive thermos I have seen yet. After removing it from the box I decided to test it by making hot tea and leaving it in the house for 4 hours. Any previous thermos’s that I’ve owned would have had the liquid luke-warm by this point. To my delight, when I unscrewed the lid the tea was still steaming. It works just as well with cold beverages, I poured some refrigerated iced tea in it and two or three ice cubes, with the cubes keeping about 2/3 of their size throughout the entire work day. Fantastic product thus far and would highly recommend.
